Since China was chosen as the 2008 Olympic site, Amnesty International (1), Human Rights Watch, and Reporters Without Borders have all reported a marked increase in violent repression aimed at silencing groups and individuals the CCP has labeled as enemies.
In June 2005, China’s deputy public security minister Liu Jing was given the job of eradicating Falun Gong before the 2008 Olympics.(2)
In April 2006, a secret and unprecedented espionage directive revealed CCP plans to investigate and bar thousands from the 2008 games, including International Olympic Committee members, staff and guests; sponsors; referees, athletes and delegates; media; the Dalai Lama, the handicapped, land rights activists, and anyone who falls within 43 categories of “unwanteds.”(3)
Deeply concerned about the Chinese regime’s worsening human rights record and, in particular, its horrific treatment of Falun Gong adherents, on June 8th 2007, the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG)(4) sent a letter to the communist leadership asking them to stop the persecution of Falun Gong and to allow CIPFG entry into China to investigate the persecution and the issue of mass, state-sanctioned organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners.(5) Not unexpectedly, there was no reply. CIPFG believes that the CCP has confirmed its unwillingness to be transparent and to respect human life; therefore, CIPFG initiated the Relay, which kicked off on August 9, 2007 in Athens, Greece. The event is traveling in Europe, Australia, Africa and South America before coming to the U.S. in March, 2008.
Open Letter to President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao from the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China (CIPFG)
June 8, 2007
Dear President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao:
We are representatives from the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China (CIPFG), which consists of over three hundred legislators, government officials, religious leaders, lawyers, medical doctors and human rights advocates from Europe, Asia, North America and Oceania.
We respectfully request your government to cease the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and its supporters, and to allow an independent international investigation of the allegations of state-sanctioned organ harvesting.
As individuals and as an organization, we in CIPFG are concerned with social justice and basic human rights. The persecution endured by Falun Gong practitioners in China over the past eight years is so much to bear that we feel like we are going through almost the same experience.
Based on reports from the United Nations and other renowned human rights organizations, as well as extensive coverage from media around the world, we are aware that thousands of innocent Falun Gong practitioners have died as a result of this persecution. We are shocked to learn about the methods of torture practitioners are subjected to and the damage done to their lives. In addition, we are particularly disturbed by the reports on state-sanctioned harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners’ organs.
Knowing that tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners are still jailed in China, facing both torture and organ harvesting, we cannot keep silent any longer.
We understand that this crime against humanity was not instigated by either of you. We are aware that both of you have also attempted to put an end to this campaign of genocide that has involved almost all the people of China. We see humane qualities in you and a sense of responsibility as leaders of the state. This is one of the reasons we decided to write to you.
We are not hostile to China. In fact, we love the Chinese people, and we hold China’s 5000 years of civilization in high regard. Please remember that one day history will write its verdict on what you choose to do, just as it has done with all China’s previous rulers.
Fortunately, you still have an opportunity to choose kindness rather than hate.
The 2008 Olympics is an opportunity for the Chinese people. When the international community awarded the Games to China, they expected that the Chinese people would benefit in many different ways, including in the matter of their basic human rights.
Nevertheless, we regret to note that since 2001, human rights overall in China have deteriorated to the extent that hideous crimes, such as organ seizures, are still occurring.
We believe that it would be a blur on the history of the Olympics and a shame to humanity as a whole if the Games and crimes against humanity were to take place simultaneously in China. Therefore, we request that you stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and prisoners of conscience such as human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng.
Whether more calls for an international boycott of the 2008 Beijing Olympics will occur depends on your decision on these important issueswithin the next two months.

1. In 2006 an Amnesty International report stated,”the official campaign of public vilification of Falun Gong has created a climate of hatred against Falun Gong practitioners, which may be encouraging acts of violence against them.” In March 2006 The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture reported that 66% of all alleged torture victims in China were Falun Gong practitioners.
3. China’s Secret Directive to Investigate and Bar Thousands Worldwide from Olympics by The Falun Dafa Information Center
The directive calls upon all levels of China’s regime to “cooperate,” but adds that it is “vital to keep this directive and all associated activities secret…it is of utmost importance to give the look of an easygoing environment to the outside, but in fact keep a firm handle on all activities.”

4. The Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, established in April 2006, is an international group comprising individuals and organizations dedicated to exposing the tragic facts of the ongoing persecution, and in particular the forced extraction of organs from Falun Gong adherents in China. For more information, please visit http://www.cipfg.org.
5. In 2007, the UN reported on charges of mass organ harvesting from Falun Gong prisoners by the communist regime for profit — where over 40,000 transplants have been unaccounted for and feared harvested by unwilling Falun Gong adherents who are killed in the process. More on this can be found in the report “Bloody Harvest” by Hon. David Kilgour and David Matas on their website.
